Vibration and switching failures of windings.
Abstract
Using a systematic approach in analyzing the root causes and places of winding failures in operation, two types of early failure mechanisms are defined: vibration and switching. Examples of the development of both types of failures are described. The role of amplitude and steep overvoltage fronts generated when switching windings of asynchronous motors and anchor windings of collector machines is shown. Based on the developed ideas about the mechanisms of failures, general ways to improve the reliability and protection of the windings are indicated.
